Tychicus – a faithful man

Sunday, 25 May

During the morning service we learnt a bit more about Tychicus. Tychicus is only mentioned five times in the bible but Paul referred to him as a “faithful minister” in Col 4:7Col 4:7
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:

The Bible says in 1Co 4:2 – “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” In other words, it is a requirement of those who God has entrusted with his work to be committed to the cause. Tychicus certainly fit this description.

We see in Eph 6:19-22Eph 6:19-22
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. in bonds: or, in a chain therein: or, thereof 21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: 22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

Titus 3:12Titus 3:12

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

and 2 Tim 4:9-122 Tim 4:9-12
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

9 Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: 10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. 12 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

that Paul trusted Tychicus to do the work of the lord. Whether it was being a humble messenger, helping Paul in prison or looking after a church, Tychicus was a faithful servant.

Don’t we all want the type of testimony that Tychicus had? It doesn’t just happen, it takes a decision. It takes work to become faithful. It’s an ongoing day by day series of decisions.

Evening Service

During the evening service we continued through Dr. Jim Berg’s series on “Quieting a Noisy Soul.” Lesson 18 (Overcoming your anxiety and fear – Part 2) looked at the way we try to control situations rather than trust God. This leads to anxiety and fear, which can manifest itself in controlling and repetitive behaviours.
